** feb1/10: shalom loyal readers. just one comic this week! but the action packed conclusion coming next friday/monday. stay tuned (please) (lol) ***

although it might not seem like it, the award winning booker and gappy series is coming to a close in just a few short comics… stick around.

so it’s friday morning at 12:09AM. i totally forgot that every friday i write a blog, and stuff, and bring as many lols from the lol factory as i can. almost forgot to make a trip there today. it is a harsh and unforgiving journey, and oftentimes, the omgmonster (i am having way more fun writing this than you are reading it) stops travellers along the way, making them rofl. i’ll stop this now

lucky for YOU, i didn’t forget to write. and guess what i’m going to write about today?

that’s right!! jumanji!

yes, jumanji. wherein robin williams plays a man, who travels back in time, who can only enter the jungle world through the board game jumanji, and when he comes through the board he brings rhinos and stuff back with him.

that was my attempt to transcribe the movie after having not watched it for a good decade. its like a child trying to describe a movie to you. i work at a rec center, doing preschool programs, which basically amounts to me pretending i know how to play sports (i do feel real sports-literate teaching a bunch of five year olds). anyways, i was talking to a five year old at work about star wars the other day, asking him who his favorite characters were (he said: anakin, luke, r2d2, general grevious, the emperor, chewbacca, boba fett, han solo, c3po…. which im sure might be ALL the characters. i asked him, “what about that robot jedi guy from the new ones?” he answered, rather judgementally, “yeah. that’s grevious. i said grevious already”.) when i tried to get the kid to explain the plot of star wars to me, he answered: “well, there’s this kid, and he races these pods, and there’s jedis, and then bad guys, and thats the emperor, and the jedis and the siths fight, and anakin has to protect his mom and padme and then he turns bad.” still sounds pretty sweet

also, yesterday i had a solid conversation about the teenage mutant ninja turtles with a 4 year old. i filled him in on the names of each turtle, which he didn’t know (seriously what are they teaching in schools today), then we discussed our favorite turtles. his was leonardo (the blue guy, the leader – common choice). mine has always been donatello, the nerd turtle. the kid was kinda disappointed to hear this.

tomorrow, i hope to discuss some other long lost childhood icon i miss talking about. maybe sonic the hedgehog?

the best part of all of this is that when people see me talking to the kids about star wars or the ninja turtles, they think i’m being a real good teacher – really connecting and paying attention to the kids. the truth is there is still a part of me that really wants to talk about star wars and the ninja turtles and sonic the hedgehog, so when i talk about how darth vader is a real bad dude – im being genuine. that guy is evil.

goodbye!
